Just when you thought you already saw the fight of the season-

Well, it seems as if the Rangers/Devils’ fight from a few weeks ago has been topped (that didn’t take very long). This was no April fools prank kids, the Flyers and Penguins are a rivalry not to be messed with, and runs real hot through the players AND the staff.

Don’t you just love when the coaches get involved?

Fight(s) of the season-

Everybody’s buzzing about the epic fight that occurred during the Rangers/Devils game last night at Madison Square Garden.

As soon as the puck dropped, the gloves were off for three seperate scrums that went on for about four minutes. I was actually at this game, but unfortunately showed up a few minutes after the mayhem, womp-womp!

The match-ups were as follows:

Ryan Carter (NJD) vs. Stu Bickel (NYR)
Cam Janssen (NJD) vs. Brandon Prust (NYR)
Eric Boulton (NJD) vs. Mike Rupp (NYR)

HUMAAAAHNGOUS BIG Comeback-

Many felt bad for the lovable Philadelphia Flyers’ goalie, Ilya Bryzgalov after watching his decline during HBO’s 24/7: Flyers/Rangers Road to the Winter Classic, but it seems like the dark days are gone for the corky universe enthusiast.

Bryzgalov attained his third consecutive shut out before last night’s game against the New York Islanders, and held onto that streak until the third period, making his the second longest shut out streak in the expansion era.

As I return so does he-

After a brief hiatus (let’s just say I gave up happiness for lent?), I’m back, and oddly enough on the day of one of the most anticipated returns in NHL history, the return of Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain, Sidney Crosby.

Crosby will be returning tonight at Madison Square Garden in the Penguins’ game against the New York Rangers. (Game starts at 7PM EST).

It’s been quite a bumpy past two seasons for the proclaimed “greatest player in the NHL”, suffering a seemingly never ending concussion last January and fighting off the symptoms up until this very day.

Sidney has only played eight games this season in a brief return, but totaled a whopping 12 points during that time, proving to many that the kid has not lost his mojo.

There is no doubt that this game will be one for the books. With the Rangers ahead of the Penguins by six points, and their star goalie, Henrik Lundqvist, still recovering from the flu, (not to mention captain Callahan’s foot injury, and Penguins’ Letang’s return) this should make for an intense, high paced, can’t call it till the very end, game. Both teams are very much so playing for keeps.

Boston seems to have hit a minor bump in the road due to center, Rich Peverley assumed to be out for 4 to 6 weeks with a sprained ligament.

Peverley acquired the sprain in a game against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday. He’s also acquired 38 points in 49 games.

As of tonight the New York Rangers’ star goalie, Henrik Lundqvist, now leads the league in shut outs thanks to their 3-0 game against the Boston Bruins.

The Rangers now lead the Eastern Conference by an impressive 9 points.

Tampa Bay Lightning’s Dominic Moore has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for his hit on New York Rangers’ Ruslan Fedotenko.

Fedotenko was injured during the hit and was MIA in today’s 5-2 (hat trick by Ryan Callahan) victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.

2014 Hockey World Cup starting quite the commotion-

FEMEN, a feminist group from the Ukraine, is protesting the announcement of the 2014 Hockey World Cup being held in Belarus.

Belarus has been known for it’s poor practice of human rights (by officials and others alike), which has not been high on the global news charts until this “topless protest” ensued. I guess sex really does sell, but this time with good reason behind it.

It’s impressive that these women brave the cold and possible backlash for such good because it has been reported that just a few months ago three members were abducted by the Belarusian KGB (the national intelligence agency), who beat them and left them for dead in a forest, nude, after another protest against their rule.

Here’s hoping that the hockey world hears their cries and relocates this important game.

M(arian)VP (All-Star game highlight)-

Marian Gaborik of the New York Rangers definitely stood out in tonight’s 2012 Tim Hortons NHL All-Star Game.

The MVP of the game not only scored a hat trick (2 of the goals on teammate Henrik Lundqvist), but hit us (and Henrik) with a very familiar and controversial sniper celebration, made famous by another teammate, Artem Anisimov (can’t forget Tampa Bay’s reaction). Of course all in jest, it was laughed off by the players and coaches alike, keeping the positive spirit we all know and love within the All-star game alive.

A shift in the animal kingdom-

Trade alert: The San Jose Sharks have added Tim Kennedy, formally of the Florida Panthers to their lineup in exchange for Sean Sullivan.

With Forward, Kennedy only scoring 1 goal and 2 points in 27 games and defenseman, Sullivan, spending this season in the AHL with 5 goals and 24 points in 32 games, I’m not positive which team got the better deal, but I think it’s safe to say it may be Florida.

Ovechkin withdrawls from All-Star game-

The Washington Capitals’ captain has opted out of playing in this years Tim Hortons 2012 NHL All-Star game in Ottawa, feeling undeserving of the honor after his three game suspension.

Ovechkin will be replaced with Pittsburgh Penguins’ James Neal.

Neal has 27 goals in 48 games, which is one more than praised teammate and fellow All-Star game companion, Evgeni Malkin.
